It wasn’t your typical day at the beach. That is of course, unless your local beach comes with a massive BMX park, skate bowl, concert stage and welcomes over 500,000 beach bumbs & bunnies all on a given time. That’s because the 2010 US Open of Surf is anything but typical, especially with names like Nike 6.0, Hurley and Converse throwing the party.

Held at the sport’s most historic city, the Open of Surf took place this past weekend in Huntington Beach, California and welcomed some of the most powerful athletes in the sports of surf, BMX and skateboarding. Surf local Brett Simpson who walked away with the title in the 2009 US Open of Surf took home the glory once again and stated that it was both luck and skill that granted him the win.
The weekend-long event combined name musical acts like Weezer, live art installations, a high school fashion show put on by high school students and plenty of sun and sand. Nike affiliate brand, Hurley, took over sponsorship of the Open last year and this year Nike Inc. invited Nike 6.0, Converse skate and Hurley to collaborate in the massive festival. Named after the six major extreme sports: surf, snowboard, ski, BMX, moto, and wake, Nike 6.0 took advantage of the event and space, and launched its first ever women’s collection of action lifestyle apparel and footwear, inspired by the new generation of women who live and breathe the sports lifestyle.
