Bomba Estereo at Fonda Theatre

Last Saturday night, Colombia’s electro dance powerhouse, Bomba Estéreo debuted their new album Amanecer at a Fonda Theater that was packed with excited fans of all races, colors, fashions and musical creeds.

We definitely have to give props to the organizers of this show as they took a chance with an eclectic line up that started off with Uruguay’s electro rock band, Sante Les Amis, followed by Mexico’s indie alternative, Little Jesus and of course, the dancing beats of Bomba Estéreo. Along with the eclectic musical line up, the crow at the Fonda Theaters was just as diverse; there were the usual dance music fans that mixed in with the rockers as well as the hipsters and “chipsters”.

Sante Les Amis began the evening with a strong set that featured songs of their album Sudamericana. With great confidence, the Uruguayan band got the fans rocking to their mix of electronic sounds, strong rock beats and guitars that left the fans more than satisfied.

Mexico’s Little Jesus kept up the momentum of the evening and even raised it up a notch and the fans responded with the same high energy.

After a rather long wait in between bands; the curtains opened and two red lighted squares adorned the keyboard set ups of Simón Mejía and Julián Salazar as they played an intro, a seemingly shy Liliana Saumet waited on the sidelines, but as she walked to the front of the stage, Liliana transformed into a ferocious lioness and the stage was the territory that she defended with great furor as she pranced around all over the stage to the delight of her devoted fans, of which some traveled from as far south as San Diego and as far north as Oxnard.

Bomba Estéreo began the show with three cuts from the new album, “Solo Tu”, “Soy Yo” and “Voy” to which the fans responded to with the same enthusiasm as better known cuts such as “Bailar Conmigo”, “Pajaros” or “Sintiendo” from their previous album, Elegancia Tropical.

With each song, the momentum kept rising and connection between the band and the audience kept getting stronger and just when the excitement level could not get any higher, the new hit, “Fiesta” was introduced and the Fonda exploded with pandemonium.

After their show in L.A., Bomba Estéreo played two sold out shows in New York City and then will head off to Europe for shows in Spain and France before heading back to the U.S. in July.

The new album Amanecer can be found at  iTunes and Amazon where it’s also available on CD and vinyl and it can also be streamed at Spotify
