Music BoxThis venue conveniently located in the heart of Tinseltown has been a Hollywood Blvd. staple for several years now.  What started in the 1920’s as a movie house, later morphed into the Henry Fonda Theatre, and has now transformed into the Music Box.  Few live music venues in the L.A. area can captivate audiences the way the Music Box does. On this venue you get the best of the big venues as well as the best of the small ones: the sound system is superb, lighting is on par, and the intimate setting makes the concert-goers experience much more memorable.  While the bands and artists that play at the Music Box are eclectic, this venue is usually attracts the indie/ rocker/ hipster/ alternative fresa crowd. Este lugar es todo un estuche de monerías since it has more than one bar, a rooftop lounge area, and lots of sitting space. Future performers include: Simian Mobile Disco, Tricky, Travis, The Faint, Ladytron, among others. To check out the full performance calendar, check out their official website.

Staples CenterThe Staples Center located in Downtown Los Angeles has come to develop into a true L.A. “staple” venue. This multi-purpose sports arena is one of the biggest and most important venues in the area.  Not only is it home to NBA’s Lakers and Clippers, NHL’s Kings and WNBA’s Sparks, the Staples Center has gained recognition for hosting international high-profile events and concerts. Since it opened its doors in 1999, this venue has hosted events like the 2000 Democratic National Convention, the Figure Skating Championships in 2002, the first-ever Latin Grammy Awards, among others.  This venue is part of a larger development by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG)- which also includes the Los Angeles Convention Center and the L.A. Live Complex (which includes Nokia Theater, Club Nokia, et al). The Staples Center can sit up to 20,000 people for concerts. Previous performers include: the Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Dave Mathews, Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Prince, U2, Paul McCartney, The Police, Cher, Ricky Martin, Luis Miguel, Joan Sebastian, Marco Antonio Solis, and Shakira among others.  For future events make sure you check out their official website.

Club NokiaA few months ago L.A. Live completed “Phase 2” of their current construction project. This new addition to the Nokia Theatre includes the ESPN studios and ESPN Zone, the Grammy Museum, Lucky Strike bowling alley, The Conga Room, and Club Nokia.  The latter is a new posh nightclub/ live music venue that since its opening has attracted a wide variety of music acts, as well as a mixed and well-balanced crowd.  While the appearance and the décor are quite simplistic, they’re also futuristic and chic.  Filled with LED screens and color changing lights surrounding the pillars and the bar it gives this venue a party-hardy vibe. Club Nokia has a relatively large, fully-stocked bar that serves drinks throughout the shows- which is great news for those who like to constantly booze it up.  A neat thing about Club Nokia is that it’s a rather intimate venue, no matter where you are, you get a clear view of the stage.

The Mint “The Mint” is yet another Los Angeles nightlife landmark. It has been around since 1937, and for over 70 years has been a hotspot for live music featuring some old school classics like Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, among others.  It has also been the platform to many artists, launching the careers of musicians like The Wallflowers and Macy Gray.  The live music featured is quite eclectic and as if it weren’t enough with live music, “The Mint” has fully stocked bars and a kitchen up and running until about midnight. A great thing about “The Mint” is that you can have a really good time without throwing your budget off balance, everything is moderately priced and you get high quality entertainment, food and drinks.  Definitely a great place to catch live music and a good buzz.
