The Basics: Just like most clubs in the SoCal area, “King King” didn’t start off as a club. However, unlike other places, that follow the warehouse-turned-into-club formula, “King King” is a former Chinese Restaurant turned nightclub on the corner of Sixth and La Brea. This gives it a different aura and overall feel to it. Even though “King King” has been around for quite some time, it has always stayed true to its roots- hosting a wide variety of events, all of them centered on different types of music. While it’s a pretty eclectic place, house and alternative are the predominant music genres at this club. Depending on the week night you go to, they have bands playing and during the weekends “King King” turns into a mini-rave with DJ’s spinning house all night long. Part of the charm of this club is that it’s rather small, thus giving it a cozy feeling. Sometimes it feels more like a lounge rather than a nightclub.
You don’t have to be a House junkie to enjoy “King King”. The energy is crazy and the crowd is warm and inviting. Zero pretentiousness and no divas, it looks like everyone leaves their ego and drama at the door, which is great. It’s definitely a different club experience, but once you try it you’re gonna want to repeat it again.
Best of all, the parking situation is not that atrocious, the cover charge is fairly decent, and the drinks are not overtly expensive. The perfect place for club heads, newbies, and oldies in search for a new kind of scene.
