Review: Latin Alternative Fest at the House of Blues (Photos & Video)

House of Blues, Latin Alternative Fest

The Latin Alternative Fest held on July 7 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood drew hundreds of fans to witness the performances of some of L.A.’s most popular bands as well as new comers to the music scene.

The long night of music began in a relaxed atmosphere, as music fans were able to move about freely through the House of Blues venue. Music lovers could either skank in the main stage room with bands such as La Santa Maria, Maskatesta and Radial, or they could enjoy the Voodoo Lounge on the second floor and relax while having a drink and listening to acoustic sets by the likes of Guatemala’s El Gordo or Mexico’s Armando Palomas.

As the evening went on, the audience increased in size and the atmosphere changed as bands like El Sonido Callejero took the stage. With Don DiaVlo putting down the beats, El Dir. Hernandez’s accordion magic and El Sargento Susej’s command of the stage, the energy level and participation of the audience increased.

During the set by Guatemala’s Malacates Trebol Shop set, the band voiced their solidarity with the Mexican people after the recent presidential elections. Local band Raskahuele had the tough task of going on stage right before the event’s headliners, but Raskahuele held their own and put on an amazing set.

But it was clear that Mexico’s Panteón Rococó was the main course of the evening. When they finally hit the stage the skanking, moshing and body surfing went full throttle.  With the frustration that Panteón Rococó and their fans felt after the Mexican elections, Panteón Rococó’s lyrics and music was the perfect outlet to release their discontent. Fans sang along with the hope that the social and political situation in Mexico will one day change.

Imagine all the people living life in peace".
