Juan Perro's "Rio Negro" revives jazz and blues clubs from all over New Orleans

After touring through Spain for most of 2011 in support of his latest album, Rio Negro, under the pseudo name Juan Perro, Santiago Auserón, will embark on a mini-tour through the west coast this June.

The singer from Zaragoza, Spain continues to push his musical capabilities in his latest effort, Rio Negro, just as he did with Radio Futura, one of the most popular Spanish pop rock groups during the 1980s and early 1990s, when he took rock en español to uncharted territories with hits such as “La Negra Flor”, “Corazón De Tiza" and “El Amigo Desconocido”, and who can forget his musical homage to the infamous Edgar Allen Poe poem “Annabel Lee”.

After taking fans on a musical voyage through the landscapes of Cuba in his previous solo albums: Raíces al Viento (1996), La Huella Sonora (1997) and Cantares de Vela (2002), Juan Perro takes us to the banks of the Mississippi River to Bourbon Street and Mardi Gras in the new album.

Rio Negro was recorded throughout 2010 with a few of its tracks finalized on the stage. Without losing his usual characteristics, Juan Perro channels the music of great New Orleans legends and musical influences, such as the unforgettable Louis Armstrong on “Duerme Zagal” or “Poco Talento”, and the great jazz marching bands of the Tremé or the Preservation Hall on “Malasaña”. On the title track of the album, “Rio Negro”,  and on “El Forastero” and “Pies En El Barro", jazz and blues clubs from all over New Orleans come alive.

Juan Perro will be playing an intimate gig on June 4th at the Roxy Theater in Hollywood, followed by appearances in San Francisco and San Diego. Not very often do we have the opportunity to experience such an iconic musical giant in such an intimate setting, so if you want to be blown away by the genius of Juan Perro, these are shows you should not miss.
