vallin vendito entre las mujeresEven though the name is familiar, it might take a second glance to notice that Vallín is indeed “that dude” from Maná. For his first solo effort, guitarist Sergio Vallín enlisted the help of 11 beautiful and talented ladies… the result is surprisingly amazing. If you were expecting him to pull a Maná and repeat the same formula, you’re in for a surprise. “Bendito Entre Las Mujeres” is quite an eclectic album, solamente basta con echarle un vistazo a las cantantes invitadas to notice that this is not your typical pop/ rock album… es mucho más que eso. Como era de esperarse, Vallín y su guitarra son la estrella principal de este proyecto, en el cuál demuestra gran destreza y versatilidad.

antonio orozco renovatioSi no haz escuchado ni papa de este cantautor español, it’s about time you start checking him out. With “Renovatio”, his seventh (yes, seventh!) album, Antonio Orozco aims for a global audience, expanding his style and taking a different approach to music without compromising artistry. Even though he has a particular style que sus fans del otro lado del charco tanto adoran, on “Renovatio” his approach is slightly different and more direct. Antonio injects each and every song with emotion and power… such quality at times is reminiscent of Alejandro Sanz, but softer and less commanding. For the most part, his pop/rock style sounds like Coldplay and The Fray meshed together, took away all cheesiness and replaced it with raw emotion… en “Renovatio” encontrarás rolas de amor y desamor, pero nunca cursilerías.

jotdogShortly after premiering their first single “Hasta contar a mil”, la nueva banda mexicana JotDog por fin hace su debut con su primer disco homónimo… and oh boy, what a debut! La neta es que este trio no decepciona para nada… if anything it will exceed everyone’s expectations.  Jorge “Chiquis” Amaro, Maria Barracuda and Midi make a hell of a team and deliver a badass album filled with electro pop fueled by 80’s synths and new wave sprinkled with glittery quirky and snarky lyrics that are both contagious and outrageous. Sin duda alguna JotDog brings back the 80s like no other y prueban que han llegado, si no bien para quedarse, por lo menos para estar aquí un buen rato y echar un buen desmadre.  The synths are contagious, the bass is hypnotic, and the overall product will have you on the dancefloor in no time… con “JotDog” aunque sea con los ojos bailas, pero bailas porque bailas.

jesse and joy electricidadGood news is, la espera ha terminado and the new Jesse & Joy album “Electricidad” has finally been released… bad news is, de electricidad solo tiene el título.  Don’t get me wrong, the album itself is actually quite good… you’ll be surprised by the quality of the music and the well produced overall product, not to mention Joy’s voice sounds impeccable in each and every of the songs. The problem is not the talented duo, ya que han probado que tienen mucha tela de donde cortar; the root of the problem lies within the direction, or lack of it… the album seems to be going somewhere but it never really takes off. The songs are beautifully crafted and executed, yet they bring nothing new to the table. Again, “Electricidad” is a decent follow up to their debut album, but taking in consideration their talent and their potential, Jesse & Joy opted for the easy way out and filled their album with crowd pleasers and no brainers.

Just taking a peek at the list of guest artists is enough to see the direction he’s taking with this new album. “Sin Fecha De Caducidad” is a timeless well crafted album that delves into the roots of Latin music with a very much alternative and even kitschy approach to it.  Among the featured artists you will find Nicho Hinojosa, Natalia Lafourcade, Alex Lora, Isaac Piña, Pato Machete, Lila Downs, Sargento García, Ely Guerra, Eugenia León, Aleks Syntek, and even Laura León… an eclectic bunch for an even more eclectic album.
