Big news out of Los Angeles is that lightning-hot local band Monte Negro’s first full-length CD “Cicatrix” is scheduled to be released by Epic Records August 5th. Their CD Release Party, in conjunction with MTVtr3 should be a major bash at the Knitting Factory August 7th to kick off a 30 (!) date 10-state tour [For specific shows and dates, checkout “Nightlife” at this website]
Monterrey-based Jumbo has recently signed with Home Artists for management. Can we finally expect to see a new Jumbo CD released in the US? More word soon. Allison just completed a US tour that included Midwest Warped tour dates—look for their new CD which includes a cover of seminal Mexican punk band Bye Sami’s “Otra Día Mas.” And speaking of Tijuana’s Bye Sami, they have re-united and are in pre-production for a new CD from their long-time label Sour Pop. And label mates Hummersqueal are releasing their new CD this fall.
Legendary rockero Alex Lora is celebrating his 40th year since his first recordings with Three Souls of My Mind. Watch for a new El Tri CD and big LA celebration at the Nokia Theater in November. Also in the studio are LA-based Panamanian rockers Cage 9 who smoked at the House of Blues show with Tribal, Montecristo and Ynez.. Their new CD should be out this fall. And speaking of Montecristo, the San Diego-based band had a hugely successful CD release in their home town in June, and are planning a tour of Mexico, followed by a Southwest US tour in October to support their single “Teresa.”.
Miami-based rock-fusion band Locos Por Juana just completed a US tour (with an outstanding performance at LA Sound System festival in June.) Their new CD through Universal/Machete Records “La Verdad” is now available. More news from bands that performed at LASS: Salón Victória kicked off their first national US tour with a series of SoCal shows, but are also visiting Texas, Arizona, Chicago and New York. And is it rue that Maldita Vecindad will FINALLY be releasing their first CD of NEW material in nine years this fall? Stay tuned for more info.
Volumen Cero are adding the finishing touches to their fourth CD, but first reportedly to be released through Adrenaline Records. Their label mates, New Jersey-based deSoL are planning a series of California dates for September when they shoot the video for “Toda Mí Canción” their first Spanish single in four years. And in other recording news, Orgullo Café are close to completing their long-awaited debut CD, with rumors of a major west coast tour in October (could this be with Chencha Berrinches and Montecristo as rumored????).
German Brisenio (ex-Los Burbanks) new project Patrona has those in the know in LA saying they are THE band to watch. Catch them live, and you will see why. And D.F.-based Kill Aniston completed their third US tour to support an incredibly good third CD from the band, “Biograpico.”
Urbano rockers FZ-10 are just finishing up their second CD (with rumors of national distribution on this one) and metal rockeros Pro-fé-cia are finalizing editing on their DVD and planning for their first Portland Oregon show in August with Las Vegas-based Pancho Villa.
